Summer Reads ’14

My Festival of Books 2014 spoils

Since I got my LA County Library card as an official California resident last summer, I was able to read for fun a lot more during the school year. So I actually finished most of last summer’s reading list (20 books or so).

This means I’m making an entirely NEW list, with NO rollover books—because let’s face it, I’ve put Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance on my past two summer reading lists and… didn’t read it both times.

  • The Archived by Victoria Schwab
  • Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
  • Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding
  • Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Oooh, I can vouch for “Shadow and Bone” and “The Scorpio Races”! Very much enjoyed them both. Still haven’t been able to get my hands on anything by Rainbow Rowell (*glares at local library*), but I’ll keep looking, for my curiosity has been piqued.

OH MY GOSH, Danielle, I am such a bad friend (but please don’t hold it against me, I’m in the middle of finals and have a touch of exam brain). INSPIRED is going on this list. Right now. RIGHT. NOW.

Also, so excited for SHADOW & BONE and SCORPIO RACES! And yes, Rainbow Rowell is fantastic. Her writing is so refreshing! FANGIRL is my favorite of what I’ve read, but ELEANOR & PARK is also great.

AHH I can’t help but burst in here (this is Starflower, if this name change is weird) and say YES YES YES. Shadow & Bone, Cinder, The Scorpio Races, The Archived, Between Shades of Gray, and The Girl of Fire and Thorns – you are going to have a good summer. These are some of my favorite books in the world. PERIOD. 🙂

Oooo, I’m so excited!! 😀 Thank you for your recs! I’ve been hearing about the greatness of some of these books for YEARS now, but I just haven’t gotten around to them (Cinder, The Scorpio Races, Girl of Fire & Thorns…). Can’t wait!
